Congratulations to Timi Snell who represented NICS at the QLD Secondary School’s State Squash Championship last week. Timi was successful in making the QLD State Squash Team to play at the Australian Squash Championships in Sydney later this year. A huge achievement and congratulations to Timi!
We take great pride in our school and the wearing of school uniform is an observable demonstration of this. As the weather is starting to cool down, students are reminded to wear the correct school jumper and pants, and to continue the wearing of the school hat. If students are out of uniform, please send a note to explain the situation. If families need assistance with acquiring school uniform, please contact the Deputy Principal, Kirstie Ireland. NICS will commence Term 3 with a schoolwide focus on uniform compliance.
I look forward to seeing the students dance at the Bounty Ball this Saturday evening. I have seen some of the practice sessions and the students have definitely improved. Thank you to the staff and community for their support in assisting with preparations for the Ball.

English Homework Everyday
The English faculty would like to inform parents that it is an expectation that students complete reading for homework for at least 15 minutes every day. This reading homework may be completed by reading out loud to someone else; being read to by someone; or reading silently alone. Being able to read is the most significant influence on a student's ability to write well and experience success at school. Establishing a reading time at home as a family, where everyone in the family reads at the same time, will also demonstrate to your children that reading is a valuable and important activity for everyone. Parents modelling reading and demonstrating a love of reading have a significant impact on their students' enthusiasm for reading.
The library and the English rooms have hundreds of wonderful novels which can be borrowed for home reading. Please feel free to visit the English rooms if you would like recommendations or assistance with choosing novels.
