First Sea Freight Delivery from Australia for 2024, MV Norfolk 3, 4 March 2024

The first sea freight delivery for the year from Australia arrived this week, onboard the MV Norfolk, which had sailed from Brisbane and anchored at Sydney Bay, Kingston. The sea conditions were settled as the crew commenced unloading cargo on Sunday 3 March and they completed on Monday 4 March 2024.

The lighterage crew made quick work unloading the cargo at the Kingston Pier and when I visited Kingston on Sunday, the transfer vessels were busy transporting the freight from ship to shore, which included vehicles and building materials, along with many other items for the food industry, supermarket and fingers crossed, this also included the first sea freight from Australian Post for 2024.

The lighterage crew had completed the work on Monday afternoon and on Tuesday the weather had turned, and large swells were rolling in to the shoreline. The transfer vessel was parked near the Pier, and I am sure everyone was pleased they had completed the unloading the day before.

On Thursday evening I checked my ship info app, and the MV Norfolk was heading south to Auckland, New Zealand, to prepare for the next delivery due at the end of March 2024, which is

Easter time. The last delivery of sea freight was from Brisbane was 18, 19 December, before 2023 Christmas and previous delivery from New Zealand was in late January 2024.

Last week on Friday 1 March 2024, the LPG Gas vessel anchored at Ball Bay and delivered Gas for the Norfolk Island businesses and community. Thank you, Tim Sheridan, for sharing a photograph in Facebook of the Gas tanker Victoire discharging at Ball Bay, Norfolk Island.

The Shipping schedule shows as from March 2024 for the MV Norfolk. The vessel is scheduled to have a regular shipping service from Brisbane and Auckland, alternating with back-and-forth voyages. These “Depot Cut Off Dates” are subject to change.

2024 advertised “Norfolk Island shipping estimate cut off dates, etc”.
