Ever Thought of Volunteering

01 May 2025

St John Norfolk Island has a volunteer staff of 14 members who fulfil a 24/7 on-call, First Responder Service to the Norfolk Island Community. The service is funded by The Commonwealth, this support provides for vehicles, the shed, any equipment we use, training and peer support. St John Norfolk Island is a division of St John NSW (https://stjohnnsw.com.au/). The community relies on the contribution of volunteers to provide this essential service, without volunteers, the service would not function at all.

St John volunteers are provided with nationally accredited first aid training.

St John Norfolk volunteers operate under St John Australia’s National Clinical Practice Guidelines which ensures that each patient receives the highest level of care to achieve the best possible medical outcome.

St John Norfolk Island provides support to community events throughout the year, assists with medevacs and patient transfers. St John Norfolk Island prepares for the worst and hopes for the best. There’s always something interesting on the go that will benefit from your involvement. If the driving the Ambulance isn’t your thing you can still help. As a community service we have a role in disaster preparation and response, we participate at many levels within the community. The premise of all that we do is to proactively contribute to a more resilient community. If you have a set of unique skills, and experience that you think may benefit our community, St John may be just the avenue for you to contribute. If you would like to come by the shed for a chat and coffee, you can call James on 51802 or send me an email at the address below.

Our next skill drill will be held 27 May, at the St John Shed on Grassy Road, 18:30 - 20:00. If you are interested in becoming a St John volunteer or, for more information about St John Norfolk or first aid training, please email norfolk.island@stjohnnsw.com.au or james.garden@stjohnnsw.com.au
