EULOGY - Micheal Louis McCoy - 1958-2024

Micheal Louis McCoy otherwise known as Mickey or Hook

On the 7 September 1958 the birth of Mickey was announced to the family by his father Bev McCoy (Didda). Mirra recalls being owt ar Lane waiten lorng fu Charl n Puppa. Micheal was the fourth child to Dos n Bev McCoy, Micheal had 2 sisters and 4 brothers, Marie Adele (deceased) Neale John Robert and Mark.

Didda yuust a tull Micky es a wild child even when hii 2 years old en had one big cyst under his armpit hii would still run through dar house with his arm in a air. Hii was nawa afraid of a challenge when dem older boys from cross du road do something be et swing in dar Banyan down goddards, slide doun dem hill roun House road or hang orn dar big pines limb while dem sii ho far dem el pul et back before letn go. Or to get een wun VW buggy as a witness fe verify wether the driver can get tu 100 miles an hour gwen down mission hill. I nor thought dem hit 100 but dem tip up down the bottom gen silky oaks stables. Or the speeds he el get to gwen down store road orn his motorbike en meetin a boet bein towed up dar road. Ooni option was fe hit dar bank en somehow managin fe get roun a truck en a boet, and nawa fallen orf the motorbike. Consequently hii had numerous accidents from a young age to a mature man far to many more to list.

Micheal attended Norfolk Island Central School to School Certificate Level, on completing year ten hii head orf tu Sydney fu do one Panel Beat n Spray paint apprentice ship with his uncle Harvey McCoy, after completen his apprenticeship Micheal returned tu Norfolk where he took up work with Bill Sanders after a few years Micheal returned to Sydney and carried on his trade as a panel beat spray painter often coming home for holidays and do some fishing. Having enough of the hectic city life Micheal moved back home in 1978 working the lighters when the ships came in and fishing with Nufka. Micheal loved to go fishing any chance hii got.

During these years Micheal played football with the Blues, the yearning to spread his wings came again so he moved to Lord Howe Island where he could carry on his passion for fishing but Norfolk Island called and after living on Lord Howe for 3 years Micheal once again moved home and bought the takeaway business Black Cat.

As mentioned earlier Micheal was a wild child which he carried on into adulthood he enjoyed a drink or two and a good time he partied hard for thirty years taking him on a wild journey that one can only imagine had he kept a journal it would make some unbelievable reading.

In 2002 Micheal decided the party was over and booked himself into a rehabilitation program in Canberra, Australia following the successful completion of his rehabilitation program and a 2 year stint with the Salvation Army Micheal came home and was employed as a general handyman with the roads team in the Norfolk Island Administration.

In 2009 Micheal married Hanna who has been his soul mate for the past 16 years this union saw the arrival of their beautiful daughter Chevie in 2014.

May 2022 Micheal was diagnosed with cancer which he, his lovely wife Hanna and beautiful daughter Chevie battled for the last 2 years sadly on Tuesday 25 June Micheal succumbed to the scourge of cancer passing away peacefully at home.

Micheal leaves behind four children, Philip, Jaydon, Tommy and Chevie. Rest in Peace Mickey.
