Australian Federal Police (AFP) on Norfolk Island currently have an employment opportunity for a full-time Locally Engaged Staff (LES) member to provide policing and specialist maritime capability support to AFP Operations.

The applicant will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of the AFP vessel, and to contribute to the operational support of policing outcomes and other regulatory functions in accordance with the regulatory framework, AFP Code of Conduct and AFP Governance Instruments.

Role Summary:
The successful applicant will be required to:

  • Provide vessel maintenance, survey and in-service management;
  • Tow vehicle maintenance and road worthiness;
  • Manage the storage facility for the vessel;
  • Manage the vessel crew and operator requirements;
  • Undertake vessel operations including patrols, search and rescue and response;
  • Research and development, appraisal and recommendation of maritime equipment and vessels;
  • Undertake community policing and engagement duties;
  • Provide advice and briefings on the functions of External Territories Maritime;
  • Have a good level of proficiency with Microsoft Office; and
  • Undertake administrational office tasking’s as required.

This position will be reviewed every 12 months and is paid at Band 4 Base Salary Rate in accordance with the AFP Enterprise Agreement 2017-2020.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Hold a Coxswain NC Grade 1 qualification, or ability to obtain;
  • Hold a current or willing to obtain a forklift licence and telescopic handler qualification.
  • Hold a C class drivers licence;
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 security clearance;
  • Hold a current or willing to obtain First Aid HLTAID011; and
  • Ability to work various shits as required, including on-call.

A background character check will be conducted for potential applicants in determining their employment suitability. Travel to Canberra, ACT and other Domestic and External Territories may be required if found suitable for the role.
