"DISCONNECTED"

22 July 2022

This weekend you have another chance to see the NATS play Disconnected at the Ferny Lane Theatre. I went last Saturday evening to see the production and it was an entertaining night at the theatre with talented locals on stage starring in a full-length comedy by Nick Wilkes talent. This is an amateur production by arrangement with Stagescripts Ltd. The characters had the audience laughing and there will so many connections to life on Norfolk Island.

As you may have guessed from the title Disconnected, it is about disconnecting an old phone booth. This got me thinking when the public pay phones were disconnected on Norfolk Island. About 10 years ago there was a phone in the Foodland Mall and one by the ATM and Commonwealth Bank, but they were removed years ago, I suppose we all ended up with mobile phones and they weren’t used anymore.

“Disconnected”
Norman is a telecom engineer, sent to a small island to disconnect the old red telephone box, which is no longer commercially viable. The residents are not happy about it. With a boat to catch and a job sheet to complete, will time and tide wait for Norman? Or like the island, will he end up disconnected?

This weekend there are three more performances, on Friday night the 22 July, then again Saturday 23, doors open at 7pm and curtains up at 7.30pm. The final performances will be on Sunday afternoon, the 24 July, starting at 2.30pm.

The weather is forecast for stormy windy and rain this weekend, so hopefully that will not affect the Disconnected production.
