Last Friday, New Zealand Waka Ama conducted the Long Distance National championships at Waitangi, in the picturesque Bay of Islands region.
Following a successful World Sprints campaign, Norfolk’s Ada Nebauer was invited to compete in the championship in the J19 W1 junior womens event. Calm conditions made for some fast paced racing. Ada sprinted off the start line and led the womens race to the first turn buoy where she was caught by renowned NZ open womens paddler Nicky Kingi.
Ada and Nicky battled it out over the 8km until Ada headed to the J19 finish line in first place. Half a minute later, the top NZ J19 girl, Reneeah Ngawaka crossed the line as the 2022 NZ champion, with recent World Sprints gold medalist Ngatuire Hapi third to cross the line.
Congratulations to Ada on another great result. Ada's next event is AO National sprints in November
