Yorlye might remember that in September Revolve Your World teamed up with the Norfolk Island Regional Council and sponsored a three-week trial of Eenee compostable nappies and wipes at Banyan Park Early Learning Centre. The trial was a great success with staff highly rating the nappy and finding the compostable nappy products easy to use and functional. As a result of the excellent trial outcomes, Banyan Park will be swapping out plastic disposable nappies and wipes for compostable nappies and wipes later this year. This swap is expected to save around 3 tonnes of sanitary waste exported to landfill every year!
The three-week trial used more than 900 compostable nappies which diverted around 184kg of sanitary waste exported for landfill.
We are hoping this successful trial will lead to an increased community uptake in the use of compostable nappies and wipes. To make sure the swap is an affordable one we will be selling Eenee compostable nappy products and compostable wipes at the Norfolk Wave Recycling Centre at cost price. A full product price list can be found elsewhere in this edition of The Norfolk Islander. Compostable nappies must be used only with compostable wipes and compostable nappy bags. That way all products can be placed into the same bin together and emptied directly into the food and organic waste at the drop-off. We will have buckets available for each family using Eenee compostable nappies to make the transition is as easy as possible. Simply grab a pack of compostable nappies and swap your full nappy bucket for a clean one! These products will be available for sale anytime we are open.
We are keen to work with other community sectors to address this stream as we know nappy products are not only used by babies. Eenee Compostable Nappies also makes adult-size products that we stock and are developing adult-size compostable incontinence underwear. We will be reaching out to community sectors that may be interested but if you have any questions, please feel welcome to phone Mandi on 55205
To better understand this stream (and to attempt to address the unfortunate mess such items make at the baler) we will be adding a disposable nappy wheelie bin at both the residential and commercial drop-off areas to separate all disposable nappy products from our sanitary stream. Please help us with this mission by keeping disposable nappy products separate and making sure they go in the disposable nappy bin as opposed to the Sanitary bin. Look for the sign. This will help us to continue to develop strategies to minimise sanitary waste generated on island and reduce exported landfill
