FESTPAC HAWAII – ONLY 15 WEEKS TO GO!
The Norfolk Delegation to attend FESTPAC – (Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture), is going to happen. The disappointment when Covid caused the 2020 FestPac to be cancelled was sorely felt, especially for the Baunti Byuutis of the day, except for two, the others are away now, furthering their careers. However there are 7 of our Baunti Byuutis to perform.
The 13th Festival Of Pacific Arts and Culture is to be held 6-16th June 2024. The Festival Theme is – Ho’oulu Lahui: “Regenerating Oceania.” 28 nations and territories of the Pacific are coming to together to share their unique and indigenous language and cultures., poetry and an International Film Festival.
The 28 member Norfolk Delegation are participating in the following cultural categories – Culinary, Story Telling, Film, Visual Arts, Performing Arts -Music & Dance, Youth Leaders conference, Weaving, Poetry, Ecumenical Service, Fashion Show, Literature including representation of the Revolve Your World team. The Norfolk FestPac committee advised the Hawaiian organisers of the work being done on Norfolk with re-cycling and Hawaii invited our team to conduct a symposium at FestPac as it fitted well with their theme “Regenerating Oceania”.
The Norfolk delegation will present a special performance of story, songs, Norfolk Hymns, Norfolk language, dancing, and a few special samples of Norfolk dishes to celebrate Norfolk Anniversary Day, (Bounty Day), giving Norfolk recognition of our history and unique culture.
The performing artists have been practicing twice a week for months preparing for the many times they will perform on stage in Hawaii. The talent of the delegation is simply amazing.
