FESTPAC HAWAII – JUNE 2024

Excitement is heightening for the Norfolk Delegation to attend the 13th Festival Of Pacific Arts and Culture to be held 6-16th June 2024 in Hawaii. The Theme – Ho’oulu Lahui: “Regenerating Oceania.” FESTPAC as it is affectionately known has some 26 nations and territories from the Pacific coming to together to share their unique and indigenous language, cultures, art, wood carving, weaving, music, dancing, culinary arts, literature, film, visual arts, tattooing, wa’aa, story-telling, poetry, International Film Festival, to name a few and plenty more which we will share over the coming months.

WEARABLE ART Extravaganza

Unfortunately, Community Arts decided to postpone the October Wearable Art Extravaganza due to a few circumstances. It is now planned to be held Saturday 20th January. We apologise for those people have been busy preparing their works of wearable art, however we look forward to seeing the fabulous creations in January. We wish to encourage all those creators to prepare their works. Entry forms can be picked up from Benjamin’s Shop.

ART IN THE PARK

This event has excelled through the years, the exhibits of art using the natural surroundings to enhance the designs mixed with trees, grass or whatever is in the reserve. It is planned to have Art In the Park over Easter 2024. Good time to get some ideas ready.

BEAN SHED CREATIVE

This new and exciting initiative by Caryn Harrington & Lisa Richards in conjunction with Community Arts have commenced this “Practice your Art at the Bean Shed.” There’s no tuition, just the time and place to do your art in a supportive space using the facilities in the Beanshed Art room at NICS; includes printing press, pottery wheel, easels etc. There are only 10 places available each week. First 10 names in each week via the Facebook page, Bean Shed Creative. There is a one off payment of $10 to join as membership of Community Arts payable at the Beanshed.

Remember to BYO materials and Practice Your Art at Bean Shed Creative is held every Tuesday 5.30pm - 8.30pm. The 1st gathering commenced last Tuesday 10 October 2023.

All the Baunti Byuutis, some 60 dancers backed by the Bumboras Yuuk Baen and the Papahia Drummers performed at Centre Court at the Royal A&H Show last Sunday to help raise funds to attend FESTPAC. A big thank you to all, some $756 was donated by the enthusiastic audience.

NET GENERAL MEETING

The Community Arts Society Inc. will hold its next General meeting 7:00 pm Monday 6th November 2023 at “Tampali”, Bumboras Road. Any persons interested in the Creative or Performing Arts are very welcome to join us. Any apologies or enquiries text to 50586
