Christmas lights, Norfolk Island 2024

20 December 2024

Christmas on Norfolk Island, is a busy week with the start of the school holidays and families preparing for visitors and organising for the gatherings for family and friends. This week is the Christmas Pageant and Parade. The local Norfolk Island church services will be held this weekend as well as on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Christmas lights have been turned on and displayed around Norfolk Island, in town and at people’s homes. I read there are lovely lights on Steels Point Road, see the details below from Facebook Norfolk Island Noticeboard page. Many families will enjoy the warm summer evenings looking at the pretty festive lights. It is lovely to drive around at night to see the sights and do not forget to check out the big Norfolk Pine tree at Kingston, it always looks a picture. Last year I also enjoyed the houses along Quality Row, downtown in Kingston, which also had lovely lights, I expect they will be decorated again this year.

“Maybe Christmas (he thought) doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more.” -The Grinch… The

lights are up at Steeles Point. They will be on every night to view. Call out Xmas Eve & join our family in spreading the joy & magic of Xmas. Please park outside and walk in

Last month I spent a week in Brisbane City and saw the stunning “Enchanted Garden” lights in Roma Garden and as you can imagine I took many photos. I also enjoyed a walk through the 100-year-old Brisbane Arcade in the City, the old stain glass windows along with Christmas decorations was stunning. It was lovely to see the large Christmas Tree near the Brisbane Town Hall plus the lights along the river with the bridges looking like candy canes and the new Stars building lite up with rotating colourful lights. All these festive lights are something we do not see here on Norfolk Island, but I am pleased as it does cause light pollution, and we must protect our Norfolk Island Magical Dark Skies.

Now that the summer school holidays have started, many holiday travellers are arriving, delighted to see family and friends. Local families have set up camping sites under the pines at Emily Bay and I am sure they will have a fun time during the holiday at the beach.

What will you be doing for the Summertime Christmas season on Norfolk Island? I will head to Slaughter and Emily Bay, and I will spend time snorkelling and enjoying our underwater world. I have been enjoying watching the sunsets at Kingston and it is always good to catch up with friends and BBQ and relax and picnic under the Norfolk Pines.

This time next week we will be getting ready for New Year’s Eve and the island will be getting busy with lots of visitors. Take care everyone, have a lovely weekend as we enjoy the festive lights as you drive around at night. Here are a couple of Christmas lights photos I have taken in recent years, plus a few of the photographs I took in Brisbane 2024.

Merry Christmas Yorlye and a Happy New Year.

Have a Safe and Happy Festive Season
