28 February 2023
It feels like it has been a busy start to the year for everyone in our community and it is hard to believe we are almost at the end of February already!
In Parliament we have hit the ground running in 2023, continuing the momentum from our first six months in office. The first fortnight of Parliament was a busy, but productive one.
I feel optimistic about the year ahead. The Government is getting on with our agenda and fulfilling our election promises, including: a referendum to enshrine a Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice, tackling the cost of living crisis, fixing Medicare, putting in place the National Reconstruction Fund, strengthening Paid Parental Leave and making Child Care Cheaper, closing the gender pay gap, action on climate change through our Safeguards mechanism, public sector reform and establishing the Housing Australia Future Fund that will build more affordable and social homes.
Our Government understands the pressure Australians are under as we all deal with cost of living increases. We are working hard to put in place policies that will make things easier. The cost of medication has come down, child care will be cheaper for 96 per cent of Australian families, we are tackling the energy price crisis through our energy plan and we are moving forward with our housing strategy.
It is a very difficult time for many Australians. Inflationary pressures are coming at us from around the world, but I know they are being felt here at home. Our economic team is acting responsibly by providing cost of living relief where it doesn’t add to inflation, dealing with issues in the supply chains from the past decade, getting wages moving in the right direction and working towards a responsible Budget in May that will continue to support Australians.
It is only Labor Governments that ensure Australia’s economy works for all people.
