Australia Post is working to clear the backlog of Norfolk Island-bound postal items resulting from shipping and weather impacts throughout this year.
As part of this commitment, Australia Post arranged to charter a dedicated freighter aircraft which landed on the Island on 4 October 2022 and delivered more than 1,460 packages.
Residents can expect the remaining backlog to be delivered on the barge services arriving from Brisbane in early November and December. Australia Post is also working to secure space on this barge service on the scheduled January and February voyages to ensure mail is arriving more regularly to the island.
Express Post parcels and letters will continue to be delivered promptly on six passenger flights a week, three from Sydney and three from Brisbane. For the fastest delivery, customers are encouraged to use the Express Post service, for items suitable for carriage by air and within the appropriate size and weight parameters.
As we head into the festive season, customers wishing to have items sent to the Island for delivery before Christmas should lodge items with Australia Post no later than 12 December for Express Post items, and before 15 November for all other items.
Australia Post is committed to providing reliable services to Norfolk Island. We apologise for the extended delay, and thank the Norfolk Island community for its patience.
