Athletics Carnival 2024

On Wednesday the 24^th of July, 2024 Norfolk Island Central School held their annual athletics carnival. The carnival was held at the school oval and the sunny day provided the perfect weather conditions for the spectators and competitors. Events held on the day included the Kindy cup, 100, 200 and 400 metre races, spot put, discuss, high jump and long jump and ball games. Events such as the 1500 and 800 metre races and javelin were held during the week before the carnival. On the day and during the week many students ran their hearts out and smashed previous long held records.

During the day Nepean held a steady lead in first place with Philip and Norfolk alternating between 2^nd and 3^rd place. The day finished with Nepean taking out first place on 1710 points as well as marching. Norfolk came second on 1634 points and Philip came third on 1568 points. The sportsmanship between the students over the day was incredible. Many high school students were more than happy to run the extra k’s to encourage the younger student. During the races the students also encouraged each other to do their personal best and congratulated each other on their times and distance regardless of what house colour they were wearing.

The house captains worked late into the night and then again early the next morning setting up the decorations through town and around the school. The amazing signs, decorations and how smooth the carnival ran is a reflection of the hard work of the captains. Thanks, yoryle.

The day ended with the most anticipated races, the hamstring cup and the house relays. In the relays Nepean held a dominant position with most Nepean competitors crossing the line first. Despite Norfolk and Philip getting a few wins in the relays, it was obvious which house came out on top. The age champions for the girls included, Alba Menghetti, Ayla Little, Ava Mullins, Ella Lemura and Sienna Menghetti. Age champions for the boys included, Jireh Bosley, Rex Moore, Toby Christian and Stefarn Kalangis.
