It’s that time of year again! Athletics Norfolk Island invites runners and walkers aged 8 years and over to register for the 2025 Around the Island Relay. As the island’s biggest race event, it’s a highlight on the community calendar and a celebration of fitness, fun and teamwork.
The Course
The relay covers 25km around Norfolk’s most scenic roads and trails, starting and finishing at Gallows Gate, Kingston. Water stations will be available at each checkpoint.
Gallows Gate to Middlegate School – 4km
Middlegate to Red Road (Prince Phillip Drive) – 4km
Red Road to Captain Cook Memorial (National Park tracks) – 3.4km
Captain Cook to Puppies Point – 4.8km
Puppies Point to Hundred Acres Reserve – 4km
Hundred Acres to Gallows Gate – 4.8km
How it Works
Relay format: Six legs in total. Enter as an individual, or form a team of two, three or six competitors.
Start times: Walkers begin at 6.00am. Runners start from 7.15am with staggered handicaps, and the first across the line is the winner.
Fair play: All results are calculated using the World Masters Age-Graded Tables to ensure fair competition. Walkers must remain walking for the full course.
Individuals: 1st, 2nd, 3rd — first past the post
Teams: 1st, 2nd — first past the post
Individuals — First Past the Post (NEW): Fastest Male and Fastest Female across the line
Individuals — Handicap: 1st, 2nd (after age/gender handicap)
Teams — Handicap: 1st, 2nd (after age/gender handicap)
Best Dressed Team
All participants and supporters are invited to stay for a free sausage sizzle, drinks and prize presentation in the Kingston compound.
