Administrator’s 2026 Norfolk Island Australia Day Awards

Nominations are sought for the Administrator’s 2026 Norfolk Island Australia Day Awards.

The Administrator’s Norfolk Island Australia Day Awards recognise those people in the Norfolk Island community whose service, and contributions have made a substantial difference to the community, they are role models and have make significant contributions to the people’s lives.

Nominations are sought for awards in the following categories:

• Citizen of the Year Award – Persons over the age of 25 years and up to 64 years as at 26 January 2026
• Young Citizen of the Year - Persons up to the age of 25 years as at 26 January 2026
• Senior Citizen of the Year Award – Persons over the age of 65 years as at 26 January 2026
• Community Achievement Award - significant achievement for which no other avenue of public acknowledgement exists and can be either an individual or a group nomination.

Nominations for these awards should be submitted to the Office of the Administrator in a sealed envelope marked “Australia Day Award Nomination”. Each nomination should include:

• the nominator’s details;
• the category in which the nomination is made;
• describe the nominees’ significant to their local, national, or global communities;
• explain why you are nominating this person, what makes them stand out, why are you motivated to nominate them; and
• two written references in support of the nomination.

The task of nominating a role model, or inspiring colleague, community champion, friend or family member doesn’t need to be daunting. The best nominations are those that tell a story. Your nomination doesn’t have to be the best written or have a long list of achievements, it just needs to capture the characteristics of the extraordinary person making a difference in the community. Whether they are the first to lend a hand at the local football club or running a business, it is the nominee’s impact on others and their story that is assessed.

All nominations are strictly confidential. Nominations will be considered by a community panel. The Administrator will announce the Australia Day Awards at Government House on Australia Day January 2026.

Lodgement of nominations must be received by the Office of the Administrator by close of business, Wednesday 17 December 2025.
