02 December 2021
Further to my announcement on 13 August that the Commonwealth was in discussions to extend use of the NSW curriculum, I am pleased to advise that the Australian Government has now been granted a license from the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) to use the NSW curriculum on Norfolk Island for 2022 and 2023.
This new licensing arrangement ensures the senior school cohort can complete their Higher School Certificate (HSC) while transition arrangements to Queensland operating the Norfolk Island Central School (NICS) from January 2022 are implemented.
Teachers and parents have already been advised that students should proceed with subject selection for 2022, based on current offerings and subjects.
I thank the NSW Government for its agreement to this license.
The Australian and Queensland Governments will continue to work closely with the NSW Government to finalise transitional arrangements for NICS over the coming weeks, with the view to minimise disruption to the Norfolk Island community.
I will continue to keep you up-to-date as we prioritise stability and consistency for students and staff.
