NIRC has been advised that the lab results from offshore Avian Flu testing can be expected mid to late next week. We are pleased to share that there have been no further multiple dead bird deaths notified since the discovery of the 19 ghost birds washed up on Bumboras beach on 25 November 2025. Council will provide another update as soon as the test results are available. In the meantime, we remind the community to be vigilant and to avoid, record, and report any bird death events of 5 or more birds, or any birds that look distressed or sick. If you observe multiple numbers of dead or sick birds around the island, please call Customer Care on 22001, or if outside hours call Doug on 55158, Tanya on 55513, or if within the National Park the Duty Officers phone on 53218.
