Welcome West Lake Shores Probus Group & Competitors for the 41st NI Clay Target Championships

Thursday, February 11, 2021

This week we were excited to welcome the West Lakes Shore Probus group to our beautiful Island.

Having travelled from Adelaide, the group had a fun program planned for the week, enjoying tours like the Pitcairn Settlers Village, Convict Settlement Tour and Colleen McCullough Home Tour as well as visiting the Sunday Markets, Museums and indulging in some retail therapy.

After enjoying Friday night drinks at the Norfolk Island Leagues Club listening to local band Acoustic Tunes, the group also enjoyed some of the Island’s night tours – Sound and Light Tour, Island Fish Fry, Progressive Dinner, and ended their week with a farewell dinner at Hilli Restaurant.

Welcome West Lakes Shore Probus and thanks for travelling with us!

Keep your eyes high this week when out at Anson Bay, as it is the 41st annual Norfolk Island Clay Target Championships this week.

Although a smaller field this year thanks to COVID restrictions, competition is still high with visitors from Australia competing against local shooters at one of the Island’s most scenic spots.

Events for the week include 25 Skeet, 10 Pair Double Rise, 25 Single Barrel, 25 Points Score, 25 Ball Trap & 25 Single Rise (D/B). It is a mixed field, with male, female and junior competitors all vying for the win.

As well as competing during the week, visiting competitors enjoyed a Welcome Fish Fry at the club house, enjoying all that the Island has to offer in terms of swimming, bush walks and guided tours, and finished the week with a Presentation Night on Thursday at Castaway Hotel.

It was a delight to welcome the West Lakes Shore Probus Club and Clay Target Competitors to auwas ailen hoem.

Welcome Regents Park Probus Group & members of Tingalpa Model Aero Club

Friday, November 06, 2020

This week we were excited to welcome one of our first groups following the COVID travel restrictions – members of the Regents Park Probus Club.

Norfolk Island Travel Centre organised a number of different tours for the group, as well as a couple of optional extras.  The group enjoyed their day tours around the island including Convict Settlement Tour, visiting Colleen McCullough’s home and learning more about Norfolk Island’s history and culture at the Pitcairn Settlers Village, then relaxed in the evening with the Sound and Light Show and gastronomic delights at the Island Fish Fry, Progressive Dinner and Hilli Restaurant.  There was also plenty of free time to enjoy the shops, local cafes and generally relish all that the Island has to offer.

It was a delight to welcome the Regents Park Probus Club to auwas ailen hoem.

We were also lucky to meet members of the Tingalpa Model Aero Club and their friend Tony from Rockhampton, who had spent the last week on-Island catching up with local friends and enjoying the near-perfect conditions to fly their model planes.

Unfortunately, the Allen Danvers Challenge had been cancelled for this year, but the group decided to still travel and enjoy their ‘gap year’. Flying locations included Fishermen’s Lane, Anson Bay, the football fields at Kingston, and the Queen Elizabeth Lookout.  The planes were amazing to watch, with Foxy McCoy bringing out his replica Corsair and Piper Cub models complete with scale pilots.  The Piper Cub is representative of those used by the US Navy in WWII and painted in the colour scheme of the era.

It was lovely to meet everyone and we look forward to welcoming them back for the Norfolk Island Fly In – Allen Danvers Challenge in November 2021!
