After many months and years of discussions the Cascade Pier upgrade has commenced.  When I drove over to Cascade to take some pictures last week, the area was closed off to the public.  The local workmen had constructed a work site office and the construction team were ready to commence the first onsite stage of the Cascade Pier upgrade .....

Steamed pumpkin and date custard puddings


280g pumpkin, peeled and diced into 2cm cubes
3 eggs
160g or 2/3 cup Low fat natural yoghurt
2 tbsps. honey
50g dried dates, chopped
¼ tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. minced ginger
¼ tsp. mixed spice
2 tbsps. 20 g plain flour

Another fantastic week of weather we've had here in Paradise, and with that comes good fishing. With the word getting out about the Wahoo being caught around Phillip Island there's been a few boats trying their luck for them. As far as I know there was only 3 boated, 1 around 25kg caught by Luke from the Fish and Chook Shop, another one speared by Jamie Ryves going 35kg and one to yours truly equaling my PB at 36kg. 

Yellowfin have also been caught while fishing for wahoo, a very welcome by catch. Trumpy have slowed up a bit but if you can time your fishing for a tide change at a good spot there are still good hauls to be had. 

If this doesn't sound like a good enough week of fishing so far let me tell you about the jigging session my brother and I had on Kingfish! Ok so most days we are out we will have a rod or 2 rigged with a 400gram jig ready to drop if we see a show of kingies on the sounder while fishing for trumpy or other bottom fish, and when we see them drop it down and rip it back up in an fast jerky manner. 

This imitates an injured fleeing baitfish and whammo a king will smash it and the forearm burning fight begins. If you can stop the king from reaching the sharp reef below and cutting you off then you have to put your back into it to get the fish to the boat before the Sharks much him up. Anyway on Wednesday my brother and I had the best days jigging to date! 

It wasn't so much the craziest or biggest fish but all in all the best as the fish were decent 12-15kg, relatively shallow water and most of all NO sharks! 

We didn't loose one jig or fish to a shark so we could just keep fishing the same spot without having a dozen 6ft meat eaters demolishing half our catch. 

I think the next few months are going to be awesome for jigging and I have spots available for charters, look up Greenwoods Fishing Adventures and get in touch.

The pleasant face of The Jolly Roger and behind the scenes in Lesley’s day to day world, no two days are the same. In the late 2015 with her loving husband Matt, children Flynn and Marli, Lesley packed her suitcase, boxed up belongings and made the sea-change others only dream of doing. It takes a certain character to plunge into the unknown, however with the support of each other, their drive and experience they pulled together as a team and as a strong family.  This is their first time running and operating a restaurant ‘The Jolly Roger’ and are absolutely loving it, with the locals and every tourist coming to Norfolk The Jolly Roger has crept it way to the top of ‘Things to do on Norfolk Island’ list........
