Reminder on upcoming ports management community consultation

Thursday, September 12, 2019

There is already strong community interest in the upcoming engagement sessions on the Ports Management Strategy, with the Australian Government encouraging Norfolk Island stakeholders to contribute their views on best options for the long-term management of Cascade and Kingston Ports.

Grosvenor Performance Group is managing the development of the strategy. The upcoming on Island consultation sessions commencing September 23 will leverage local expertise and knowledge to explore current issues and potential solutions.

Invitations to workshops and interviews have been sent to a wide range of local stakeholders and there will also be a drop-in session open to all community members at Norfolk Mall on Saturday, September 28 between 9 and 12pm.

Driven by community consultation and best practice, the strategy development project will identify options for future port management and infrastructure for the Island’s unique circumstances.

There will be a second set of consultation sessions later in the year, at which the options for future management will be tested with the community.

A fact sheet on the project is available at www.regional.gov.au/territories/norfolk_island/currentconsultations/index.aspx.

Any queries or feedback can be sent to NIPortsProject@grosvenorpg.com.au.

Upgrades to dining in residential aged care

Friday, September 06, 2019

The recently completed extensions to the dining and common room at the Norfolk Island Health and Residential Aged Care Service (NIHRACS) facility have provided aged care residents with more room to gather for their meals and meet with friends and family members.

The project was funded by the Australian Government as part of its commitment to improving community infrastructure on Norfolk Island.

I spoke with residents during my most recent visit to the facility, and was very pleased to hear the positive responses to the increased space and light that has been created.

The works included constructing a new ramp from the dining room to the garden to provide residents with better opportunities to access the aged care gardens.

My thanks to the local tradespeople who completed the works, and Manteena for their design and project management services.

With the design work for a new purpose-built health and aged care facility for Norfolk Island continuing, the upgrades to the existing facility will improve the quality of care provided to aged residents while Government makes decisions on a new facility.

Ceremony for newest citizens

Friday, September 06, 2019

I had the great pleasure of swearing in five new Australian citizens in a ceremony at Government House on Tuesday, September 3.

I would like to welcome and congratulate Amanda and Sam Cribb, Paul Browne, Richard Lee and Ghee Keng Tina Siah.

These five new citizens were joined by family and friends as they made the pledge of commitment to Australia, the nation they have chosen to call home.

It was a very moving experience for all in attendance.
