Shipwreck Archaeology in Australia ... by Michael Nash

Thursday, December 12, 2019

Since the loss of the Trial in 1622, more than seven thousand shipwrecks have occurred in Australian waters. A significant number of these have now been located - often revealing themselves as time capsules providing fascinating insights into marine transportation, cargoes and early colonial life.

This is the story of how a unique underwater resource has been conserved and protected as part of the nation's rich maritime heritage - including wrecks associated with early exploration, colonial trade, whaling and the introduction of steam technology. Containing comprehensive maps and many previously unpublished photographs, Shipwreck Archaeology documents the work of leading maritime archaeologists on some of Australia's most important shipwreck sites.

CONFESSIONS OF A MILITARY WIFE

Thursday, December 12, 2019

My husband is infantry, and
he said the most wonderful things
to convince me to marry him:

• The closets could all be mine since he wears the same thing every day.

• I could have as many babies as
I want because giving birth is free.

• He would never get on my nerves, because he would always be gone.

Something is out there. As the night sets in and the long shadows fall, come and take a lantern-lit ride to the other side.

Step through the veil into the worst of all possible worlds, explore the crooked, cobbled nether-world of Norfolk’s dark and troubled past as we visit real haunted sites and hear real ghost stories which have for generations lain forgotten and abandoned—until now.

Double-dare you to follow me …

GUILTY AS CHARGED

Thursday, December 05, 2019

In Fort Worth, Texas, I was hauled before the judge for driving with expired license plates. The judge listened attentively while I gave him a long, plausible explanation.

Then he said with great courtesy, "My dear sir, we are not blaming you—we’re just fining you."

Progressive Dinner

Thursday, December 05, 2019

Progressive Dinner - Tuesday &Thursday 5:00pm + On Demand

BYO Drinks if you wish

The Progressive Dinner is legendary, and a fixture on Norfolk Island itineraries.  The perfect way to get a taste of the real Norfolk lifestyle, Baunti’s progressive dinner, takes you to three lovely homes in three completely different parts of the island.

To begin the Baunti Progressive experience, we take you to the northern tip of the island to enjoy pre-dinner nibbles at a clifftop home with amazing ocean views.  Your host, a Bounty mutineer descendant, will entertain you with his story of life on Norfolk and his fascinating adventures.

Entrée is served at an old family Island home, renovated by its current owner for her young family.  As you enjoy her home cooked ‘wettles’ (food), she will tell you about her family and share her detailed research into the island’s remarkable history and cultural heritage.

Your main course and dessert are enjoyed at a large family home in the south-east corner of Norfolk.  While your hosts serve your meal and make you comfortable, a close family friend and local identity will reveal some of his island experiences and tell you about some of the historical Norfolk practices and industries.

All you have to do is relax and enjoy the home-cooked food, bursting with the goodness of fresh island produce, chat with your fellow diners and soak up the stories of your island hosts as they share their passion for their little island paradise.
