Norfolk Island's war history is not part of Australia's war history. In the official history of Australia in the war of 1939-45 a footnote on page 16 of Army Volume VI remarks that Norfolk Island in the south Pacific Area was garrisoned by New Zealand troops 1942-44 and refers the reader to the New Zealand Official Way History.

Gil Hitch has assembled all of the factual information he could find, into chronological sequence. He also learnt that the Norfolk aerodrome resulted from an initial interest of General MacArthur.
